The electrophoretic coating process, better known as E-coat, consists of the immersion of parts in a water-based solution containing a paint emulsion. Once the pieces have been immersed, an electrical current is applied, this generates a chemical reaction that causes the paint to adhere to the surface. A uniform layer is formed in the piece since the parts to be painted remain isolated, which prevents them from acquiring a greater thickness of paint. 

The pretreatment for this line is based on zinc phosphate and consists of 11 stages, where the first stage is a degreasing immersion and the second is a degreasing spray. This ensures that the oils used in the manufacturing process of the parts are completely removed. The remaining steps are through immersion. 

The painting process involves the painting tank and three subsequent rinses, which are a combination of immersion in the first, spray in the second, and immersion in the third. This process ensures that the paint finishing on the parts is uniform and defect free. 

The process currently involves bars that are taken through each step of the process. 

The maximum size per bar is: 

Height: 48 in
Width: 36 in
Length: 84 in 

The maximum weight per bar is 640 pounds. 

The maximum painting area per bar is 320 square feet. 

The process is capable of producing 20 bars per hour with a cycle time of 2 hours.
