Step 1: Product cleaning and pre-treating

Before coating, the product must be entirely clean and free from any particles that would ruin its perfect finish, such as oil, dust, metal scraps, or other fragments remaining from the manufacturing process. To reach this level, Scanpaint uses appropriate chemicals that are approved to clean a specific surface.

Nonetheless, the overall solution is to submerge the product into a tank that contains an inorganic solution which main component is phosphate.

Step 2: Electrocoating bath

After the initial pre-treating procedure, the product goes directly to a total immersion in an electrocoating bath that contains a deionized water solution and black epoxy paint.

This step is the most important one to ensure the quality of the finished product, since it gives an extensive coating and the effectiveness desired to enable the product reach the customers requirements.
After immersing the product, a DC electric current will be applied to stir the water-epoxy solution.
The voltage to be applied will vary in order to give the product the desire thickness.

Step 3: Rinsing

When the coating has the perfect thick, the product goes directly to a rinsing station, where any excess coat is removed (this excess is better known as “cream coat”, or the unnecessary solids that remain after the immersion).

The entire cream coat that was removed will be driven back to the e-coating tank, where it can be reutilized for new processes.
If this step fails, the exterior appearance of the product will not be flawless as expected.

Step 4: Baking and curing

This is the final phase. Baking will exclusively depend on the product size, the elements used to paint it and its composition.
